FAQ

Questions and answers

Where are my entries stored?

Only on your phone, in an encrypted database. The app does not send them anywhere: the diary has no network client of its own, and the Android build does not even ask for internet access.

How this works in detail: How the encryption works.

Who can read my diary?

Anyone who has your unlocked phone and your PIN — and nobody else. We cannot: your entries never reach us, because there is no server to send them to.

If someone picks up your phone while the diary is open, the diary closes as soon as the app goes to the background.

What happens if I forget my PIN?

The PIN cannot be reset: it takes part in the encryption, so without it the entries cannot be decrypted — not by you, not by us. There is no email reset, because there is no account.

Write your PIN down somewhere only you will find it.

Can I turn the lock off?

No. Without the PIN the diary cannot be decrypted, so the lock is part of how it works, not a setting. For quick unlocking you can turn on Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint.

Are there ads or a subscription?

No ads — anywhere. The diary is free; TAEONIA Horizon is optional: monthly, yearly or a one-time purchase, after a free 14-day trial. See Pricing.

Which languages does the diary speak?

English, German and Russian. Two themes are free — the light Mist and the dark Caprica — and TAEONIA Horizon adds five more. You can choose the reading typeface, text size and line spacing. Voice transcription recognises English and German speech.
