Terms
Terms of use
Version 2 · Effective date: 13 October 2026
1. Who we are
TAEONIA is made and sold by Oleksandr Perov, a sole trader (Einzelunternehmer) doing business as “Carrot”, Seydlitzstraße 63, 80993 München, Germany (“we”, “us”). In the stores the developer is shown under this name or under the business name Carrot.

2. What these terms cover
These terms apply to the TAEONIA app and to TAEONIA Horizon, its optional paid part.
- On iPhone, the app is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/). These terms add what that agreement does not describe: what Horizon is, how its trial works, and how purchases, cancellations and changes are handled. Where the two differ, Apple’s agreement governs the licence to use the app, and these terms govern TAEONIA Horizon to the extent Apple’s agreement does not address it. Neither of them takes away the rights described in sections 4, 7 and 9 that the law does not allow to be excluded.
- On Android, you get the app through Google Play under Google’s terms for Google Play. These terms are the terms of the app itself.
- How the app handles data is described in the privacy policy: https://taeonia.com/privacy.
3. The app and your diary
- Your entries stay on your device. The diary has no server and no account; what you write, photograph or record is stored encrypted on the device (privacy policy, sections 3–4). We do not receive it, cannot read it and cannot restore it.
- The PIN cannot be reset. It takes part in the encryption. Without it the entries cannot be decrypted, by you or by us.
- Deleting the app deletes the diary. The same applies to a lost, broken or reset device. The app offers its own backups, which you create and keep yourself; keeping a backup is up to you (privacy policy, section 9).
- These are properties of how the app is built, not risks we chose to leave in: an app that could restore your diary for you could also read it.
4. TAEONIA Horizon
The diary is free. TAEONIA Horizon is an optional paid part that opens more of the app; the list of what it opens is shown on the Horizon screen in the app, and that list is the one that counts.
- The 14 days. When you set up the app, it offers to open Horizon for 14 days at no cost; you can also start the trial later from the Horizon screen. The trial is not a subscription: nothing is charged when it ends and nothing renews by itself. The end date is shown in the app. When the trial ends, the Horizon features close until you choose a plan yourself. The trial is a one-time offer.
- How it is sold. As a monthly or a yearly subscription, or as a one-time purchase. The store — Google Play or the App Store — shows the price in your currency, takes the payment and, depending on your country, the tax; the final amount is the one in the store’s window before you confirm.
- Subscriptions renew at the end of each period until you cancel them. You cancel in the subscription settings of Google Play or the App Store; the Horizon screen has a way there. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. After a cancellation Horizon stays open until the end of the period already paid for. Switching between monthly and yearly is also done in the store; the new plan starts on your renewal date.
- The one-time purchase is not a subscription and does not renew. It includes the Horizon features available in the app when you buy it. It also includes the features we add to Horizon later, for as long as we offer the app in the store where you bought it.
- When Horizon ends, its features close again, and nothing you created is taken away: your entries and what you made with Horizon stay on the device and open, and backups you made can always be restored without Horizon.
- Refunds and your statutory rights. Payments, refunds and cancellations of store purchases are handled by the store under its own terms. This does not affect your statutory rights. If you are a consumer in the EU, you may have a statutory right of withdrawal; the store’s terms explain how it applies to your purchase and how to exercise it. If you are in Australia, our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Wherever you live, if something is wrong with Horizon, write to info@taeonia.com and we will help you obtain a remedy, including through the store.
- A purchase belongs to the store where it was made. It does not move between iPhone and Android. On a new device with the same store account, “Restore purchases” on the Horizon screen brings it back. Family Sharing works as the store sets it.
5. Changes to the app and to Horizon
We develop the app and may change, add or remove features. Updates, including security updates, are delivered through the stores; please install them. If you are a consumer in the EU and do not install an update that we provided and told you about, we are not responsible, as the law provides, for a defect that this update alone would have fixed.
We change Horizon only for a valid reason — for example, to adapt it to new versions of iOS or Android or to store rules, for security, because the law requires it, or because a component it relies on is no longer available — and at no extra cost to you. We do not remove a Horizon feature from subscribers during a period they have already paid for. If a change noticeably reduces what you can do with Horizon, we tell you clearly in the app before it takes effect, and you can cancel your subscription before your next renewal. If you are a consumer in the EU, you can also end the contract free of charge within 30 days of receiving that notice or of the change, whichever is later, as the law provides; this applies to the one-time purchase as well.
6. Using the app
You may use the app for your own diary, in line with the law. Please do not try to bypass its purchase or trial checks.
If you turn on “Photo on a wrong PIN”, you decide whether to use it and you are responsible for using it lawfully: if other people use this phone, or it is a work phone, tell them.
Minors. If you are under 18 and the law where you live requires a parent’s or guardian’s consent for you to use an app or make a purchase — for example in Texas, USA — we do not enforce these terms or any purchase against you unless that consent was given through the App Store or Google Play. Your statutory rights are not affected.
7. Liability
We are liable in accordance with the statutory provisions. Nothing in these terms or in Apple’s agreement limits our liability for intent or gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under product liability law, under a guarantee we have given, or where mandatory consumer law does not allow a limitation — including the statutory rights you have as a consumer in your country of residence and, in Australia, the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law.
Section 3 describes what the app cannot do by design: decrypt the diary without the PIN, or bring back a diary from a lost or reset device without your backup. A backup that you keep protects you against these losses.
8. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we publish the new version at https://taeonia.com/terms with a new effective date and tell you about it in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect.
- For purchases made after that date, the new version applies from its effective date.
- For a subscription you already pay for, it applies from your first renewal after it takes effect. You can cancel in the store before that renewal; nothing changes for the period already paid for.
- For a one-time purchase you have already made, a change to your disadvantage applies only if you agree to it.
Prices are not changed through these terms: a price change for a running subscription goes through the store, under the store’s rules.
9. Law, languages and contact
These terms are governed by German law, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of the country — and, where relevant, the state, province or territory — where you live. On iPhone, Apple’s agreement (section 2) contains its own choice of law for the licence to use the app.
These terms are published in English, German and Russian. The three versions have the same meaning; if they differ, the version more favourable to you applies.
We are not obliged and not willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
Questions about these terms: info@taeonia.com. Please do not send us the contents of your entries.
